One-Stop Shop

The One-Stop Shop Project is funded by the European Commission?s INTI programme, and involves eight partners in seven EU member states. The Common Agenda for Integration (COM (2005) 389 final) defined as priorities strengthening the capacity of public and private service providers to interact with third-country nationals via intercultural interpretation and translation, mentoring, mediation services by immigrant communities, "one-stop-shop" information points and building sustainable organisational structures for integration and diversity management. The coordinator of this One-Stop Shop Project is ACIDI, I.P. in Portugal, which runs a National Immigrant Support Centre. This Centre was recognised as a best practice in the first edition of the European Commission?s Handbook on Integration for policy-makers and practitioners. The Project aims to examine the potential for the establishment of ?one-stop shops? for the provision of services to immigrants in EU countries, involving various Government ministries and agencies, operating in partnerships with non-Governmental organisations and with services provided by cultural mediators. The Project runs from September 2007 to February 2009.
