Forum for the Social Integration of Immigrants
The Forum for the Social Integration of Immigrants in Spain is an organ of consultation, information and advice on the topic of the integration of immigrants. It is under the Ministry of Employment and Immigration, through the General Directorate for the Integration of Immigrants and was created by Decree-Law in 2004 (1600/2004, 2 July), and constituted on 6 June 2006. In 2008, a new Decree-Law (438/2008, 14 April) changed the name of the Ministry of Employment and Immigration and approved its organic law. The main objective of the Forum is to promote the participation and integration of immigrants in Spanish society, recommending, informing and channelling actions directed at achieving this objective. As well as receiving information and proposals from the State General Administration, the Autonomous Communities, Local Administration and NGOs with activities in the area of immigrant integration, the main functions of the Forum are to prepare annual reports on activities undertaken, on the situation of the integration of immigrants and refugees, and other reports on proposals, plans and programmes that can influence integration processes; to promote or undertake studies and initiatives on topics related to the integration of immigrants and refugees; and to cooperate with other organisations at a regional, local or international level, seeking better coordination of actions that aim at the same objectives.
